Explore Mexico in 40 short miles.  The city occupies a shallow valley ringed by rocky hills. Incorporated in 1888, it is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County.

Old Escondido Historic District is made up of mostly single-family homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many are Victorian or Craftsman styles. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to Grand Avenue in Downtown Escondido.

The Farmers Market in downtown Escondido is a certified Farmers Market that showcases fresh-picked California-grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers.  The Escondido Swap Market has operated over 40 years, and features used and new merchandise and food. Westfield North County, which opened in 1986, is an indoor shopping mall on Via Rancho Parkway in southern Escondido.

Those who call Escondido home, have easy freeway access and close proximity to CSUSM. Not to mention about 15 minutes to the beach of your choice!

What to do

All neighborhoods within Escondido enjoy great school and library options; public transportation services (bus, and trolley); a variety of places of worship; proximity to major medical facilities; sufficient local shopping, restaurants, and entertainment while being within an easy radius to major shopping centers. Locals enjoy many local wineries. But the real star is the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (also known by its former name, “Wild Animal Park”) is located near Escondido, in the San Pasqual Valley within the city limits of San Diego. It is the sister park to the San Diego Zoo. The Safari Park shows animals in open habitats.

In addition, 92027 and 92029 homes have great community parks and recreational fields throughout and is surrounded by natural beauty and scenic views, walking and riding trails, fishing and picnicking, some competitive rock climbing and serious hiking.
